Centre for the Deaf Tenpin Bowling Day
An opportunity was created for thirteen students from the Centre for the Deaf to meet with four other deaf students from different schools. The four students are the only deaf students in their schools and wanted an opportunity to meet similar aged students they could connect with. We all met at Feltham Leisure West for Tenpin bowls. Thank you to Sam Saib for driving us there and back.
Our students immediately made the other students feel welcome. They were kind and helpful to those who were unsure of how to bowl and were very patient and encouraging. They all had a lovely time, without getting too competitive.
After a couple of games, it was time for lunch. Most students wanted to buy lunch and were encouraged to decide what they wanted and to go up and order it, independently. For some, this was the first time they had ever done this and it was a great way to gain confidence.
Later, they had some time to play arcade games and use the pool table. It was so nice to see the students being kind and supportive towards each other. They helped each other and made sure everyone was involved. Some of the students even shared their prizes.
Heston students displayed positive attitudes towards everyone, and their behaviour was exemplary throughout the day. They truly made us proud.
