T-LEVELS

Heston Community School offers T-Levels in Healthcare Science and Business Administration. T-Levels are new two-year, technical study programmes that will initially be available across 24 pathways in 11 industry routes. They are delivered in a classroom based environment with 20% of the time spent on an industry placement working in employer settings.

Alongside vocational courses and A levels, T-Levels will be one of the three major options available to students aged 16 – 19. They are an ideal qualification if you have finished your GCSEs and want the knowledge and experience to get straight into employment, an apprenticeship or higher education.

One T-Level takes 2 years of full-time study and is equivalent to 3 A levels.

why choose a t-level?

Created with business

T-Levels have been designed with leading businesses and employers to give you the knowledge and skills you need.

More than 200 businesses have been involved so you can be confident your T-Level will move you to the next level. You will gain professional development and specific sector skills in a real work environment.

Get ahead in your career

T-Levels give you the chance to learn what a real career is like while you continue your studies.

Your industry placement will last for at least 45 days – when and how you complete it depends on the T-Level, the School and employer. Check out student views on industry placements.

Qualifications that count

When you pass your T-Level, you will get a nationally recognised certificate showing the overall grade you achieved - pass, merit, distinction or distinction*. It will also give details of what you learned on the course to help you move into skilled employment or a higher apprenticeship.

do universities accept t-levels?

Yes. As T-levels are advanced level 3 programmes, you will gain UCAS points to join a university. You can either apply for a degree or a degree apprenticeship. You can also progress straight into employment as you will have built key skills necessary for the sector.

Awarded UCAS points

Your T-Level will be worth UCAS points – a T-Level Distinction* is worth the same as 3 A levels at A* – and will be recognised by universities and other education providers so you can choose to continue studying if you wish.

what's the difference between t-levels and btecs?

T-levels are advanced level 3 courses and equivalent to 3 A Levels. They offer a much longer period of industry placement [usually up to almost 3 months] and aimed at students who are very clear on the career path they wish to pursue. The course is a combination of in-class study and work placement.

BTEC’s are also advanced level 3 courses and equivalent to 2 or 3 A-Levels however, they have a shorter work experience period [2 weeks] and mainly focused on developing key skills during practical sessions in school.

T-Levels and BTECs are equally valuable to employers and universities. The only difference is the industry placement and work experience you will gain within the practical side of the course.

You will need to be more confident in undertaking a T-Level as you will work alongside managers and supervisors who will teach you a specific trade and skills, give you real job responsibilities and you will be accountable for your work.

For both T-Levels and BTECs, you will need to be dedicated, highly focussed and have a good sense of which career you would like to follow. Depending on your study style, you can choose whichever programme you feel would suit you more.
